This is the healthiest TFT has been in a long time. Everything seems viable and the S-tier comps are diverse, flexible and have counterplay. Well, other than Blender.
Compositions
This was the patch of five-costs. If you have a lot of two-star five-costs, you’re probably getting top two. Or just get good items on Zed. Throw Amumu, Singed and Zed in every comp and you’re good to go.
Also, I’ll be putting the seven best possible items in every composition instead of two or three. This should give a good idea of what items are playable, but generally there’s only two core items in every comp.
Ocean Wardens
Ya so, it turns out Mages are still bad. However, Summoners and Infernos slap. So, although I was technically right about not playing Ocean Mage, Ocean Wardens are nuts.
Play Amumu, Brand and some Summoners and Wardens. Throw in Nami and Soraka for bait units, put some AP on Brand, or don't. You can put AP on a random Singed or your Amumu. Do whatever honestly, just don't die in the early game, pick up as many Rods as possible and enjoy freelo.
Five Costs
Like I said, playing random five-costs is a completely viable strat and actually has the second-highest winrate in top-ten challenger.
This comp is like the game where you put shapes in their corresponding hole. Just know what item goes on what champion, don't die in the early game, and once again, enjoy top four. Do try getting at least two silver five-costs, otherwise you may die during a power dip.
Blender
This comp is still S-tier. If you get a Spat in the first two carousels, just go this comp and get top two.
Yesterday, someone got second against me without Blade of the Ruined King, so I guess you can still blindly force this comp to challenger. Do note that I have no idea how to position this comp, but I'm pretty sure the items are correct.
Kindred
Kindred can be played a bunch of different ways. If you're stacking only her, six Shadows is best, but it seems Shadow Summs is probably the most consistent variant.
Just whatever you do, do not go four Rangers. I lost like 50 LP trying to play the four Ranger variant until I looked up what challengers were running. Also, I have no idea how to position Kindred, but I don't think you're supposed to put her in the back row as she'll generally jump forward.
Also note, Ashe's items are exactly the same as Kog'Maw's, so you can pivot from Preds as long as you get Seraph's on Kindred.
Summ Sins
Summoners are one of the MVPs of this patch. Summ Sins is still a viable comp, but it's generally better to transition into random five-costs and keeping the Summoner buff through Annie and Yorick.
As long as Zed is stacked, the comp is flexible. If you're forced to stack Kha'Zix, you may want to stick with the Desert and Assassin buff, but try and throw in like Taric, Amumu and Singed.
Meta Update
I'm much happier with my predictions. The only thing I really didn't expect was Ocean Wardens coming back.
What I Got Right
- Blender is exactly the third best comp. I'm nuts.
- Kindred is exactly the fourth best comp. I swapped out a few champions, but it largely works the same.
- Summ Sins is exactly the fifth best comp. Nuts again.
- I've literally never seen a Senna this week.
- Amumu is even stronger than I thought.
What I got Wrong
- Electric is still strong. You can play four Wardens and stack Zed with Electric.
- Four Rangers is a bait. Never do this in your life.
- Zyra is a decent Morello holder, but should be transitioned out of. Without items this champion is a bot™.
- Although the Twitch buffs are significant for Preds, they're actually only the seventh-best comp in terms of winrate, right behind Zerks.
- Speaking of Zerks, they're actually only sixth best.
- Six Inferno is actually playable. Wow.
What I Didn't Know About
Only two things y'all:
- Ocean Wardens are back. Mages still suck, but play Summs, Wardens and Brand and you're good to go.
- Random five costs have a 20 percent winrate in top-ten challenger. Neat. Play Summoners into random five costs and win.
